Capturing screen-shots on iPhone

April26

I accidentally did this and found a capture of screen-shot in my photo  library. .. Apparently if you want to take the screen shot of a page you are currently viewing, you could just press and hold the iPhone’s Home button, and then click on the Sleep button on top of the phone.

Again, to capture the screen you are currently at:

  1. Hold iPhone’s Home Button
  2. While holding Home Button click Sleep button

The screen of the iPhone will flash briefly white while a screenshot is captured into the photo library.(You can see the screenshot on the camera roll area of the pictures folder.)

Isn’t this neat? Well, then again, what am going to do with such a feature?

-Capture anything online via safari for wallpaper!

- save settings of an account – email/calendar etc

- capture snapshot of my bank accounts while logged in any bank-app so I don’t have to log-in more than once a day

-capture any error thrown by a third party app for reference

well…this small list is a good validation that it IS a cool feature!

Apple.. how about these features on iPhone in future?

July30

It is quite obvious that iPhones these days will definitely be full of apps after the 2.0 software. My  home screen is full and so are the next two! Cluttered, confusing, colorful and meaningless. While i am happy, very happy, with these possibilities as apps, i am still disappointed in iPhone.

Amongst possible other ideas, here are few changes that would greatly benefit me! Maybe a consideration for  Apple to think of in future updates?

  1. If only iPhone had categories on home screen that are customizable..say i get to add categories: Games, Utilities, Settings, Apple etc… I could dump all the built in apps into Apple and the rest are up to what ever i feel like!
  2. What about the ugly default theme? Who are you guys at Apple kidding? Every phone out there which is a little on the higher end has themes. Are you saving these silly but essential features for future updates so that we feel happy from time to time!
  3. COPY PASTE is not supported!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant put enough exclamations here

Apple…what are you upto! I have a hunch you guys are purposefully holding on to these features for future..where we all iPhone users feel silly and happy when they are out! uh! Grow up!

iPhone wont restart!

July30

Since iPhone 2.0 Software update, i have been trying out various apps on my phone. I have a dozen+ free apps, and one paid game “Chopper”- just because i wanted to experience the cool maneuvers exploiting the built in accelerometer of iPhone.

While experimenting adding apps, i realized that my iPhone crashes/hangs/does nothing at the screen it is stuck a lot of times! And though I am as geeky as i could be, i didn’t jailbreak/unlock my iPhone. I am ATT customer, paying $83 a month, yup – royally ripped off, and i hate not having full control on my iPhone. But its worth having the support and warranty in caparison to nothing while you make iPhone a $400 play toy!

Coming back to the reason to this post..today my iPhone wont restart. I tried a lot of things before getting frustrated and spending a good 30 minutes Googling on it! What all did i try?

  1. I tried holding the home screen button, forever, and nothing happens…it is stuck at  iPhone contacts
  2. Double click only results in opening iPod, which i set it up for at the settings, and crap now i have a song playing but i cant reduce the volume because the volume buttons are not responsive.
  3. Restart button the top, held it forever a dozen times… all it does is lock the iPhone .. that’s it…no restart happening here!!

Oh..well..not to add i was freaked out, getting late to work, didn’t have my breakfast, my cat is hungry and the world goes on even if your iPhone doesn’t restart!

But finally, after trying weird combination’s of holding the buttons on iPhone, the combination Sleep/Wake button on the top of the iPhone and home screen button at the same time works!

There you go, try holding Home screen button +  Sleep/Wake button on the top of the iPhone simultaneously if you have same problem…hope that works!!

Upgrading 2G iPhone to new 3G

July10

You are now chatting with G

G : If You are eligible for upgrade at this time you can upgrade your device to the new iPhone tomorrow in the store for 199 for the 8gb or 299 for the 16gb device. If you are not eligible for upgrade you can use a early upgrade and get the device for 399 for 8gb or 499 for 16gb.

Me>>: how do i know if i am eligible?

G : Did you access the site throughyou online account manager, where you entered your wireless number and password?

Me>>: yes

G : Did the online account manager give you the option to upgrade today so you could get on the site to see the phones and devices?

Me>> : i do see the upgrade phone option

Me>> : when i click it takes me to chioces in phone devices

G : Then you are eligible for upgrade.

Me>> : but i dont see iPhone i there

G : you will not see the iPhone on the site because you can not order the device online. you will have to go to your local AT&T store to get that device.

Me>> : oh ok.

Me>> : so if i go for a 8gb one ,its 199 and 2 year contract from upgrade date

Me>> : right?

G : Yes, that is correct. The new 8gb iPhone is 199 and that does extend your contract for two years.

G : Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Me>> : also, do i get to keep this iPhone and add another line as upgraded iPhone?

G : Me>> are referring to the old iPhone?

Me>> : yes

G : Yes, you can keep your old iPhone.

Me>> : so i can retain the current iPhone i own, but upgrade to/add another line on new 3G iPhone

G: Yes, that is correct.

Me>> : Thats great..thank you, thats all for now

Horror and Serenity of owning an iPhone

April5

Owning an iPhone was sought after for a while now..age/gender/occupation seemed to not affect the desire for an iPhone. Nowadays you find almost every other person to have one in their hands- thinking that they are flaunting what they got. Seriously, i think its time that so many owning it makes it that much too ordinary, a cry far away from cool/happening.

What makes me feel iffy about the iPhone is the fact that its from Apple! I am a huge fan of a good product, a good branding( my ASUS S6F), and i dont necessarily have any complaints with Apple..not for now..but i am not sure if i will feel differently in near future :)   I am not OK with iTunes & iPhone updates… I am hugely disappointed in everything that goes on with new updates.

If you are wondering if there was any recent update with iPhone, then no. The last, latest update is from January 2008. Why am i talking about it now? That kinda answers the point I’m trying to make.

I dint install the January 2008 iPhone software update just because i dint want to have to go through all this. Its April 2008, and i am finding some free time and finally get to install the update. Guess what happens? MY IPHONE CANNOT CONNECT THROUGH EDGE!

I restarted it half a dozen times( Don’t try to even suggest the same thing again people!), cleared cache/cookies/history in safari, nothing is looking good right now.

“Safari can’t open the page because it can’t find the server.” is what i get when i am trying to access Safari ( any website, even Google.com). Same kind of messages about “cant find server” come up when i am trying to access my Mail, Weather etc. .
Just great..its Friday night, and all i got to do was install Firefox 3 beta and test it..just to realize that fireftp, greasemonkey don’t work with the ff3..and now my iPhone is acting crazy.
Now i have to make an appointment with apple store( i don’t like when i cant fix my gadgets, not especially when i paid $500+ on one). I could do other important things: laundry, dishes, bathe my cat, grocery shopping, applying for summer internship positions around Louisville..nope.

I bet i wont get anything done when my head is thinking of all possible googling i could do to figure out a fix for my iPhone.

I bet if there is a website that just is dedicated to users aggravated with Apple iPhone, it would be running out of bandwidth in a day!!! Dude, i hope i get my iPhone working asap!
