Google April Fools Day Prank : 2007

April2

Check this out!!!

Google launches Free Toilet ISP as April Fool’s Day prank !!
On April 1st, to celebrate the 500th April Fool’s Day, the Mountain View, California-based technology concern launched their annual April Fools’ Day prank, posting a link on its homepage to a project, codenamed “Dark porcelain” that delivers online connectivity via computer users’ plumbing systems.

Sunday’s gag also included a facetious statement by Google’s co-founder and President Larry Page. “We’ve got that whole organizing-the-world’s-information thing more or less under control,” Page said in his witty statement. “What’s interesting, though, is how many different modalities there are for actually getting that information to you – not to mention from you,” he further said.

Who ever fell for that! I know my roommate did!!

YouTube on its way to glory!

March19

Here it comes, yet another promotional item for YouTube!

YouTube users will be able to vote for their favourite clips in seven categories, including most creative, and “most adorable” video ever! All of The seven categories are: most creative, most inspirational, best series, best comedy, musician of the year, best commentary and “most adorable video ever.

Pop band OK Go are among the nominees for their infamous treadmill-based music video for Here It Goes Again.

The winners will be announced on 25 March, with each receiving a trophy and a prominent spot on YouTube. The nominees can create new videos over the next five days to promote themselves, plead for votes and make acceptance speeches.

Climb on the bandwagon people, what a good idea to make youTube more popular!

Not really that it needed it right now. I mean, The BBC had struck a content deal with YouTube, the web’s most popular video sharing website, owned by Google a while ago.

And what about all the publiicity with “Viacom, the parent firm of cable networks MTV and Nickelodeon, has told popular video sharing site YouTube to remove 100,000 “unauthorised” clips“?

Also is a done deal from Vodafone.

Following similar deals with social networking website MySpace and auction site eBay, Vodafone customers will now be able to view and add videos. The YouTube service will initially be available to Vodafone’s UK customers before spreading to other countries.

No, it really dint need this move right away. Still, is a good one!

Impressive Google Guide!

December31

If you use Google everyday. You may want to check out this site www.googleguide.com . A site full of helpful Google “Stuff”.

Google clarified a little about what they meant by the top searches of 2006. Rather than the absolutely most popular searches, which don’t change much year to year, (and some of which don’t make family-friendly reading) Google picked terms that were popular in 2006 but not as popular in 2005.

Check out Zeitgeist 2006 , It is pretty impressive work up there.

Google catches Music Trends via GTalk

December28

This new feature i was trying in my GTalk asks me if i want to contribute to the survey of trends YES/NO.

It sure looks like GOOGLE Music Trends are being collected for the Zeitgeist or something. Well maybe another way of Google getting its statistics, or is it upto something ?

Now, whatever Google is integrating has already been done in YM!

How come such a hype with GTalk then?

It all started with orkut integration, much like Yahoo360 integration. Then was to enable chat history to be able to send offline messages, which was there in yahoo since for ever! Then came file Transfer, and hello! Yahoo did it earlier!

One new thing which wasnt a copy from anywhere was leaving voicemail. Not something extraordinary, but a feature that stands for GTalk.

As of now, finally, Music status, a pure copy of YM!

I am a fan of Google, its products and ideas. But when i think about it,YM! was a provider of all these cool features.

Google’s One big step ahead of YM! is with the popularity, clean fresh feel of its products, say GMAIL for instance. Clean, fresh, appealing (how much ever copied from others, which used to be the tag for Microsoft!), and clearly very much practical.

The giant is getting all the integration of services, that a person needs when online, available with one word. GOOGLE.

I sure am getting used to it, almost reluctant to use any other service!
